A Mystery
Note to Post in One Day
Here’s what I love about being on Substack—even after 8 months I can still be surprised.
For the most part, I’ve been both a reader getting caught up in the wide-ranging topics & a weekend writer sharing posts from my WordPress website I’ve been active on since 2022. Given the fact that during those 8 months I also revised, self-published, & promoted my second Oregon Meltdown companion novel, I’ve been happy with my low-key approach to this vibrant platform & appreciative of my 23 subscribers.
Then a couple weeks ago, I decided to put a hold on the promotional side of things in order to focus on my new work in progress. After some reflection, I decided for some unknown reason to keep Substack & one or two other platforms, but essentially let the others sink or swim even though most have many more followers.
And then, guess what? My latest Substack post “Stepping Back” garnered the most viewers yet, some past posts got more likes, & a few more subscribers signed on to bring my total to 30 (yes, dear reader, there is no k after 30, & I’m perfectly happy).
Could this be the result of a mass migration from TikTok or X? Or could the Substack algo be more welcoming to an indie author who’s grown weary of promoting & prefers reading, responding, & writing?
Well, as the great philosopher Phillip Henslowe reportedly said, “I don’t know. It’s a mystery.”
